MEDIA/ NEWS RELEASE - Going through Hell in Mooloolaba
For Immediate Release
6 August 2009
The
headquarters for the Hells Bells and Fairy Bells adventure races has been
announced as the idyllic holiday location of Mooloolaba on the Queensland
Sunshine Coast. Seriously? Can this renowned 24hr adventure race possibly
retain it’s tough reputation at such a relaxed and self indulgent
holiday spot? The answer is yes, organisers have designed a traditional
linear adventure racing course where competitors will be transported by
bus to the start, up to 100 km away! It will take in both the Sunshine
Coast and hinterland incorporating some “local knowledge only”
spots that can only be described as magic.
Hells Bells and Fairy Bells are designed to be "race friendly"
for interstate and New Zealand teams. The race is unsupported, kayaks
are provided and there are assistance options for teams travelling to
the event. Many interstate and overseas teams race the event, this year
including the winning teams from the Rat Race in the ACT, the Maximum
Adventure 24hr race in NSW and Caffeinated 24hr race in WA. Entries are
limited so don’t miss out.
Teams
of three in the categories of Premier Mixed, All Male and All Female will
be treated to a range of adventure disciplines. Trekking will be in forested
areas, cross country, walking trails and beaches. The mountain biking
will take in forest roads, fire trails and an extensive section of awesome
single track. The kayaking will be on beautiful inland waterways. For
2009 teams will attempt two different roping sections, no experience or
equipment needed, just a sense of adventure! Finally the new discipline
of Target Archery will be included where dexterous teams may gain a few
minutes advantage on their competition with some sharp shooting.
The 6th edition of Hells Bells 24hr Adventure race will be held on Oct
17th – 18th 2009. The new sister event, Fairy Bells will be held
at the same time and covers approx half the distance. Both races have
been designed to cater for local teams and those traveling from interstate
and New Zealand. Why not make a holiday of it and spend a few days extra
on the beautiful sunshine coast before or after the race.
Hells Bells and Fairy Bells receive generous support from Area51 and
Endura.
