Team Bio:
Adrenamen incorporates four very different, yet similar, young men who have all come together with the

one goal – to experience the journey that is the 2008 XPD. Each member has a strong love of the outdoors

coupled with a vested interest in the environment.

Sime

Occupation: Consulting Environmental Scientist

Outdoor Pursuits: Mountain biking, camping, spear fishing, surfing, ballroom dancing.

Competitor in the 2007 XPD Whitsunday Adventure Race.

Countless holidays spent exploring Fraser Island and Central Queensland with his parents planted the

seeds of adventure in Simon from a very young age. Nine months spent training for the 2007 Whitsunday

XPD resulted in his team finishing unqualified due to injury of a fellow team member. This has fuelled

Simon’s focus for the 2008 race. Having experienced the joys and disappointment that so embodies such

an adventure, Simon is a constant driving force behind team training sessions and ensures the team

frequently operates above their limits.

Just to finish! What an achievement that will be. To go through such physical and emotional exertion and

encounter such incredible fatigue, and then to pop out the other side. That’s what keeps me going with

this. That’s going to create a bond that will last us our lifetimes. I’m really looking forward to this one

Dunc

Occupation: Business Owner- Real Estate

Outdoor Pursuits: Cycling, horse riding/mustering, Ultimate Frisbee

Duncan’s rural bloodlines have seen him born and bred in country Queensland. Many days spent in the

saddle mustering on his Grandparents sheep and cattle stations from Goondiwindi to Kilcoy, sees him

right at home when it comes to hard work and long days. Currently on leave from his Environmental Law

studies to pursue business opportunities, Duncan enjoys getting away from the city for the teams epic

training sessions. Never one to complain or slacken off, Duncan’s work ethic carries the team through

those long, soul-destroying uphill climbs.

“W
hat will be really interesting is seeing how all our training and individual skills come together under

race conditions over such an extended time. Plus, we get to play with some really cool toys!

Mick

Occupation: Environmental Scientist

Outdoor Pursuits: Fishing, cross country triathlons, shopping

Michael’s upbringing throughout north Queensland saw many wilderness adventures from the tropical

rainforests to Cape York. Desperate to use this race as a fantastic adventure sees Michael keen to ensure

Simon’s advice is taken and investments are made into what is required to complete the High Country

XPD. Being the first casualty of the gruelling training regime, a dislocated elbow saw Michael replace the

team’s torturous hill climbs with painful physiotherapy sessions for many weeks. Always good for a witty

retort or well timed joke, Michael will surely act to liven the mood during the times of expected

exhaustion.

I see our greatest challenge during the race as being our ability to continue functioning as a team and

making the big decisions when we are all cold, hungry, extremely fatigued, sore and suffering from sleep

deprivation. Even in our training sessions we all go through our ups and downs at different times and we

really rely on our team mates to recognise this and drag us through

Adam lives his life to adventure. He sees himself as the happiest man on earth as he has also found a

lovely fiancé who does the same. Together they spend every spare opportunity riding, hiking, climbing

and splashing about from one glorious spot on earth to another. Never flustered, no matter what the

situation is, Adam’s navigational skills are second to none and his directions are never questioned by his

team mates.

Ten days. Eight hundred k’s. All through the Australian High Country with three mates. Icey winds.

Freezing nights. Wet. Tired. No sleep. Hungry. What a blast!! Who wouldn’t want to be involved?? This is going to be so much fun
