The Insomnia 24 Hour Mountain Bike Festival is held annually at a stunning
location 30mins North of Brisbane, Queensland. The feature is a 24 hour
mountain bike race but is supported by a raft of festivities including
live music, food stalls, competitions, displays, demos, corporate tents
and all weekend camping. At the event centre, Pit Lane is the hub of all
event happenings. It is lined with all sorts of vendors and stretches
from the transition area next to the lake, right down to the main entertainment
stage. The festival is open to the public and competitors alike. Gates
open 3pm Friday with the main race starting midday Saturday and finishing
midday Sunday.
The
racing track is 17.5kms long and organisers have enhanced the already
extensive single track to provide one of the most ridable and enjoyable
24 hour courses in the country. It is characterized as easy to moderate
difficulty with gentle undulations and wide passing lanes. Speed and curves
are what this course is all about! One highlight for riders and spectators
alike is the two-third point of each lap which passes right in front of
the main music stage.
Dates are set for 21-23 June 2008.
