MEDIA/ NEWS RELEASE
Organisers have booked five bands for an estimated 500+ competitors at
this year’s Insomnia 24hr Mountain Bike Festival. Scheduled to play
throughout the weekend, they will entertain riders at the start/finish
as well as the 2/3rds point of each lap where they ride right in front
of the main music stage. Held annually, 2008 dates are set for 21-23 June
2008.
For the competitive riders, there is over $15,000 in cash and prizes
up for grabs at the 2008 Insomnia 24hr Mountain Bike Race. This includes
an awesome $4,000 in cash for the fastest team of four riders! Solo men
and women will each be riding for $500 in cash. There are also tons of
category and random draw prizes – you’ve got to be in it to
win it!.
Set by a lake just 30mins North of Brisbane, the Insomnia venue welcomes
friends, family and the public to be part of a raft of Insomnia festivities
including live music, food stalls, competitions, displays, demos, corporate
tents and all weekend camping. Pit Lane is the hub of all event happenings.
It is lined with vendors and stretches from the transition area next to
the lake, right down to the main entertainment stage. Gates open 3pm Friday
with the main race starting midday Saturday and finishing midday Sunday.
The racing track is 17.5kms long and organisers have enhanced the already
extensive single track to provide one of the most rideable and enjoyable
24 hour courses in the country. It is characterized as easy to moderate
difficulty with gentle undulations and wide passing lanes. Speed and curves
are what this course is all about!
