Insomnia 24hr Mountain Bike Festival

Festival Over For Another Year

After months of planning and preparation, from both competitors and organisers alike, the Insomnia 24hr Mountain Bike Festival came to a crescendo on the 21 and 22 June. A weekend of awesome mountain biking, live music, markets and camping left even the hardiest competitor exhausted. Having doubled the number of riders from last year, the event is shaping up to be an icon on the mountain biking calendar, not only in SE QLD, but in the country. The event will be back next year one week later on the 27 and 28 June 2009. Until then check out the new 8hr Enduro to be held in October!

Congratulations to all the riders, friends and families who participated in the weekend giving it such a great vibe. At the pointy end a special congratulations go out to Race Elements For The Riders who completed the most laps over the weekend (30). The cream of the solo category was represented by Craig Storey with 21 laps and Prudence Oswin with 17 laps. Congratulations as a whole to all the podium place getters. Results are up on the website.

Organisers would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the event sponsors, Race Elements, Verofit, Ay Up Lights and For The Riders.

Mountain Designs GeoQuest - 48hr Adv Race

2008 was the year that put the "adventure" back into adventure racing at Australia's premier adventure race, the Mountain Designs GeoQuest. From scrambling down remote gorges, to body boarding on famous North Coast surf beaches, and wading through mangrove estuaries at midnight, this year's event left competitors with more than your average weekend worth of memories.

Congratulations to Christie Sym, Hugh Stodart, Simon Manson and John Jacoby from Team APEX, winners in the premier mixed category. Second place was team Torque Tri Adventure and third was Team Mountain Designs. In the female category congratulations go out to the kiwi team Smartwool Golite Girls on Top. In the Males it was Team SCAR. In the Geo-Half congratulations to team Blackheart Salomon.

XPD Expedition Race

Calling All Potential Volunteers!

We are looking for dedicated people who are willing to pitch in their time to be part of the organising team during the race. To be honest, we can’t guarantee that you will get a lot of sleep, have easy tasks to do, or get lots of free time. However, we do think you will meet lots of interesting people, experience an amazing event, and take away some great memories.

Most volunteers will be required for the full duration of the race. You will need to be at the event centre for a day of training on Monday 17th November 2008. Likely duties will include manning checkpoints, working in the race HQ, moving team equipment around the course and assisting media and VIPs. You will need to organise/ pay to get yourself to and from the event centre. Once at the event centre however, costs for expenses such as fuel, some accommodation and some food will be covered by the event.

More details can be found on the Volunteer Official page of the XPD website.

City Raid

Entries, Volunteers and more...

The Gold Coast City Raid is less than 3 months away and there are a lot of excited rumors going around as to what the Raid Points will be. RAID POINTS vary and could be anything from shopping for an obscure item, playing a round of roulette at the casino to climbing the stairs of one of the locations land mark buildings. You need to collect a certain number of raid points then return to the finish line. This means you can choose which ones you tackle..

Entries open 1 July so get in early and secure your teams spot. Don't forget there are special categories for schools, corporate and fitness industry professionals.

Not racing? Still want to be involved? Volunteer officials are what make these events possible. It is great way to be a part of the event, meet new people and also support your family and friends who may be racing. At this stage we really need people to help man RAID POINTS throughout the course's and assist with timing at Race HQ. If you can spare the time to help out at this race please contact Nicole at nicole@geocentricoutdoors.com.au for further information. Thanks!

Bribie Island Multisport

Introducing the Bribie HALF

The Bribie Half is a new event for 2009 and run at the same time as the full Bribie Island Multisport. The 53km race sees relay teams and individuals complete the last 4 legs of the full course. This includes a 9km trail running, 30 km mountain biking, 10 km of kayaking and a final 4km run. This is actually the exact second half of the full course, so it is a true "half" race.

The half has been designed as an easier step into multisport racing. It is perfect for a team of 4 to try out their first race. It is also great if you don't have the team mates or the time to commit to the full course. As the Bribie Half individual and team competitors complete the second half of the course, the start time is at a very reasonable 9:30am. This event certainly lends itself to those looking for a more social outing!

Latest details have been updated on the Bribie Island Multisport website.

There is a description of each leg on the race web site.
