Mountain Designs GeoQuest - 48hr Adv Race

Australia's Premier Adventure Race

Mountain Designs GeoQuest is going to Port Macquarie in 2010 - an adventure playground that we have rarely seen the likes of! The race course this year will see a more linear format taking teams on an exhilarating and exhausting journey of the Port Macquarie coast and hinterland. Cleverly though the course has been designed to consider support crews but still retain a journey aspect. More details in the coming months.

Entries are set to open on the website on 26 Feb 10 with an early bird special open for two weeks until 12 Mar 10 before standard entry fees begin. Don't miss out on these great discounts.

Important Notice: After 8 years on the Queens Birthday weekend, the dates for 2010 have been changed to 20-23 August. This was due to an unavoidable clash with the XPD Expedition race. 2011 dates are expected to return to the Queens Birthday weekend.

Bribie Island Multisport

Start Training for 2010!

Entries are now open for the Bribie Island Multisport and the Bribie Half. Entries must be made through the online system on the event website.

2010 date is set for Sunday April 18th. The event will see over 300 competitors racing solo or in teams on Bribie Island, the Pumistone Passage and the Glasshouse Mountains over the 100km or 50km courses.

New change for 2010 - Due to severe beach erosion and marine park concerns Leg 3 (the combined swim/run leg) has been removed from the race. To offset this to a small degree the Leg1 swim has been increased to 1km. From 2010 and onwards the course will be 8 legs - 1km swim, 8km beach run, 13km kayak, mountain bike 20km, trail run 9km, mountain bike 30km, kayak 10km and run 4km.

Are you Fit 2 Date?

Fit2date is a 4 week training program for fit single people who want to train with and meet other fit single people! The same group of people meet once a week for a 1 hour training session, which is hard work but lots of fun. Programs are run in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

Hells Bells - Fairy Bells

It was the best of time, it was the worst of times...

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times….” so wrote Charles Dickens, presumably after he had finished his inaugural 19th century adventure race. Team ‘The Likely Lads’ were Jamie, Snelly and Grahame who set out on their Hell’s Bell’s adventure in good heart, having managed to drop off their bikes in Nambour without too much incident. Snelly had noticed a tyre split which could easily be remedied through buying a new tyre in Mooloolaba and carrying it until we got back to the bikes, but nothing that couldn’t be managed.

“The Likely Lads’ attacked map waterproofing with a vigour seldom seen in previous races, masterminded by Jamie who demonstrated a cool head and steady hand at critical points. Boxes were packed and handed in and the team tried, like all other teams, to moderate toilet visits whilst waiting for the bus to arrive.

XPD Expedition Race

"as much an expedition as a race"

Orion Health, World Champions 2008, to Race XPD

Snapping up a wait list position, 2008 World Champions from New Zealand, Orion Health, will make the 5th Edition of XPD one of the most competitive XPD races ever run.

The year before winning the world championship, Orion narrowly won the 3rd edition of XPD in a close battle with team Blackheart.com.au. Blackheart had been leading the whole race and was overtaken on the second last leg. Both teams transitioned together but Orion got away first and raced to the finish winning by only minutes.

Blackheart won the subsequent 4th edition of XPD in convincing fashion but their nemesis team Orion was absent. Now the 5th Edition in Cairns will see both teams racing head to head with a score to settle.

Fans question though whether they will both be outclassed by the powerhouse team Merrell/Alkali from the United States including Robin Benincasa, winner of the legendary Eco Challenge, Raid and too many other races to list.
