Insomnia 24hr Mountain Bike Festival

(2006 - 2008)

The Insomnia 24hr Mountain Bike Festival was held from 2006 to 2008 on a private property at Kurwongbah, north of Brisbane. Created and directed by Geocentric Outdoors, the event combined endurance racing with a weekend of camping, live music, food trucks, and family-friendly activities — creating one of Queensland’s most memorable mountain biking festivals.

Riders tackled a looped course that wound through forest singletrack, ridgelines, and sweeping descents, riding day and night in solo, pair, or team categories. In addition to the flagship 24-hour race, Geocentric also introduced the 8-Hour and 6-Hour Enduro events — standalone one-day races that allowed more riders to experience the same course and atmosphere in a shorter format.

Geocentric Outdoors developed the mountain bike trails on the property and managed volunteer trail-building days, transforming the venue into a purpose-built endurance riding destination. The team oversaw all aspects of the festival, including course design, logistics, safety, marketing, and event delivery.

The Insomnia events became known for their relaxed camping vibe, great community spirit, and high-quality course design — a hallmark of Geocentric’s approach to outdoor events that blend challenge, camaraderie, and celebration.
