GeoQuest Adventure Race
(2002 - 2017)
GeoQuest is Australia’s original 48-hour adventure race and the foundation of modern adventure racing in the country. Created and directed by Geocentric Outdoors, the event was first held in 2002 and continued annually until 2017, when the baton was passed to a new event organiser. Each year, the race took teams of four through spectacular coastal landscapes along the New South Wales coastline — from the South Coast to the warmer North Coast regions — with courses that combined mountain biking, trekking, kayaking, and navigation over challenging terrain.
Across its history, GeoQuest regularly attracted over 50 teams annually, including strong representation from New Zealand. The event also introduced Live GPS team-tracking to Australia, allowing supporters to follow the race online — a first for the sport nationwide. Each edition was carefully designed to highlight the natural beauty and community spirit of its host region, often partnering with state and regional tourism organisations to deliver lasting economic and promotional benefits.
A shorter Geo-Half event was subsequently introduced, encouraging new participants to experience adventure racing in a more accessible format. GeoQuest became known for its professionalism, atmosphere, and community of passionate racers.
GeoQuest carries forward the legacy built by Geocentric Outdoors — a legacy of adventure, teamwork, and exploration that helped shape the sport in Australia.
