Hells Bells 24hr Adventure Race
(2004 - 2011)
Hells Bells is Australia’s longest-running 24-hour adventure race and a cornerstone of the national adventure racing calendar. Created and directed by Geocentric Outdoors, the event combined trekking, mountain biking, kayaking, and navigation through some of South East Queensland’s most spectacular natural environments — from coastal headlands and white-sand beaches to lush rainforest trails and winding river systems.
Geocentric designed and managed the entire event — from marketing and entries through to course design, permissions, safety systems, and logistics. Each year, a new course was created to challenge teams both physically and mentally, often featuring night navigation, river paddling, and creative special disciplines that became a hallmark of the event.
A shorter Fairy Bells course was also introduced to provide a more accessible option for newcomers, offering the same adventurous spirit over a condensed route. Hells Bells regularly attracted large fields of competitors from across Australia and New Zealand, and was frequently supported by local councils and tourism organisations for its positive economic and community impact.
Following many successful editions, Hells Bells was transitioned to new organisers, continuing the tradition established by Geocentric Outdoors. The event remains a defining part of Australian adventure racing — a true test of endurance, teamwork, and navigation that inspired countless racers to push their limits and explore the outdoors.
